Mughal Heritage:
The last powerful descendants of the Mongols, the Mughals ruled the subcontinent for around 300 years- from the 16th to the 19th centuries. Mughal culture was very different from their Mongolian ancestors?, since the Mughals were Muslim and had absorbed the Middle Eastern and Persian traditions. The fascinating Mughal Empire has left its ever lasting imprint on Pakistan. The magnificent architectural sites left behind by the Mughals are now popular tourist destinations in Pakistan.

Additionally, Urdu (Pakistan?s national language) is a language that evolved in the Mughal courts. Similarly, Mughal cuisine is very popular in Pakistan. Lahore was the main urban center of the Mughal rule of the sub-continent. Pakistan?s main cultural city; today Lahore continues to boast important Mughal monuments like the Royal Fort, Badshahi Mosque, Wazir Khan's Mosque, the tombs of Jehangir, Asif Jah, Noor Jehan, and the famous Shalimar Gardens.

One of the most popular Mughal sites to visit in Lahore is the Mirror Palace, which portrays the height of Mughal luxury. The Shish Mahal also provides a superb view of the Badashahi Mosque. On the left side is the tomb of Allama Iqbal.

The greatest jewel of the city of Lahore is the Shahlimar Bagh. The garden is a combination of water channels, fountains, cascades, waterfalls and bathing hall divided into three different terraces. These terraces are three levels of green, based on the Muslim concept of heaven.

Overall, there is no doubt in the fact that Pakistan?s Mughal heritage alone makes it a worth-while country to visit and explore.
